Nautanki Saala Review!

“...and have fun! “, this is what the intro of Nautanki Saala advises the audience and this Ramesh Sippy directed film gives us enough reason to follow the advice very effortlessly.  Nautanki Saala of intelligent comedy flavor is a story about director-cum-actor Ram Parmar(Ayushmann Khurrana) who by his nature ‘plays God’ and how his help-till-i-die principle makes his life topsy and turvy when he helps a suicidal Mandar lele (Kunaal Roy Kapur) who is brokenhearted and devastated by his breakup with Nandini Patel( Pooja Salvi).

The plot ,a remake of 2003 french movie Aprés Vous ,although not brilliant is handled humorously with an amazing script. The cinematography is awe-inspiring with beautiful stage sets and other limited locations. The over-all projection is very modern with the costumes adding the hip appeal to the movie. The first half is absolutely brilliant with very funny scenes, superb acting and the overall plot development but the second half loses some of the shimmer because the highlighted comic gags get a little displaced due to the romantic angle. The comic element and the timing deserve a huge shout out for making all the audience go bonkers!

Ayushmann Khurrana commands and amazing screen presence and delivers very good acting skills .Kunaal Roy Kapur another gem gives tough competition to the lead with his roll-on-the-floor hilarious performance .Both the actors share a very successful chemistry ,so good that it over shadows the Pooja Salvi who is fairly average. Gaelyn Mendonca acts okay for her part. Sulabha Arya and Rufi Khan also compliment the comedy with their presence.

The original soundtrack of Nautanki Saala is very catchy with almost all the numbers being popular hits Saadi gali and Mera Mann being extremely popular.

Watch it for Ayushmann  ,Kunaal ,the soundtrack and of course for some not-to-be-missed comedy!

Rating- 3
