Don’t judge a book by its cover, that is what the wise men
told us but with Ghanchakkar the cover was far better than the pages inside.
The trailers looked promising with funny shots and so did the beginning but as
the story unfolded, it started losing its luster and became just average.
The first half was not anything new from the trailers but remained
on the right tracks with some hilarious sequences but the second half stretched
causing unnecessary delay to an ending which after built up anticipation of a bang
only resulted in a fizz.
Cinematography, direction and dialogues were not something
extra-ordinary. As far as the acting was concerned, Emraan Hashmi has come a
long way from his haggard looks of ‘murder’ days, and now is more stylish and
involved in the apt portrayal of the character (Sanjay Athrey), the forgetful
robber. Vidya Balan, one of the most bankable stars today gives a good
performance but her character (Neetu Athray), a freaky fashion follower, looks
like the perfect example of exaggerated marketing of an unneeded product; her
wacky character doesn't add any substantial element to the story. Rajesh Sharma
(pandit) and Nimit Das (Idris) give justice to their roles.
There are not many songs in the movie except the prominent title
track ‘Ghanchakkar Babu’ even so Amit Trivedi’s background score is pretty funky.
But after the weak story you expect Altaf Raja to grace the big screen but alas
even that doesn't happen.
Watch it for ...er you can wait and watch it on your
television screen, it ain’t so special.
Rating-2/5
Ps-I won’t disappoint you; here is ‘Jholu Ram’ (i don’t own the video, no copyrights infringement intended)
