Direction, editing, production, music and screenplay by
Mr.Sanjay Leela Bhansali .Heck even the tiltle bears his stamp.Yes, this movie is Mr.Bhansali’s baby, but the baby didn't
live up to the expectations.
Goliyon ki Raasleela –Ram Leela is inspired by not Lord Ram’s
story (as some thought : / )but by the
Shakespearean drama Romeo and Juliet. And that itself should suffice for the
description of the story or should it ?In this case the director chose to go Ashutosh
Gowarikar’s way i.e didn’t know when to say ‘pack up’. The story is stretched unnecessarily
with redundant scenes especially in the second half and majorly after the
climax.
The movie without any doubt boasts of grand, colourful and
beautiful cinematography with the lead pair along with the supporting actors
looking amazing in their gujarati attires, the dialogue delivery too is fully
rooted in the gujarati essence but all together it just doesn’t hold up.
Ranvir Singh and Deepika Padukone both look stunning and act
very well. Supriya Pathak is absolutely fitting for her role .Richa Chadda and
Barkha Bisht are good too.
Apart from the cinematography, the music of Goliyon ki
Raasleela-Ram Leela is pretty good with Tattad-Tattad,Nagade Sang Dhol, Ang Lagade and Lahu Muh Lag Gaya blending in
with the movie.
Whether it was the romance (yes, despite the sizzling
trailers) which didn’t connect, the length which was all too long or the story which
was so unreal and brow raising at times, the movie didn't quite work for me.
Watch it for-
1. The highly energetic and impressive tattad-tattad song 2.Good looking lead pair.
3....no, watch it on tv
