The latest "s" word in town...

What comes to mind when one thinks of Rekha, Vidya Balan ,Sushmita Sen and lately Deepika Padukone? Hint hint, it starts with ‘s’. It is the Indian garment saree! This five letter word commands a strong fan following and given its impressive evolution over thousands of years, it is safe to say, saree like weddings never go out of fashion!

Saree in our diverse nation embodies variations from state to state. And bringing these masterpieces at a one stop location in Delhi is the owner of the saree store, Shaatika. Shalini Verma is a saree aficionado and to channel her love for sarees, she has opened this stunning shop in Shankar market, near connaught place.

Shaatika specializes in silk and cotton sarees. And each saree in the store is a typical yet unique art work of different states. At Shaatika , you can feast your eyes on the batik ,madhubani and bomkai from the eastern states, to the Kashmiri kadhai and phulkari from the north. Where the southern ethnic art work is present in the form of upada and kasavu sarees , the western states grace the shelves with the patola and bandhej sarees . The central states too mark their presence with exquisite chanderi and dabu prints.

In a candid conversation with the owner, she expressed her rationale of opening the store to fulfill her heartfelt desire to promote and preserve these ethnic and traditional sarees. She beautifully explained about the rich handwork that goes into these one of kind sarees, which she has brought in from all over the nation.

To complete your bucket list of sarees, you no longer have to plan a trip to Chennai, Jaipur or Sambalpur. Shaatika with its incredible interiors and varieties is your google for traditional sarees. With its informed owner, I am pretty sure you will be introduced to a different saree at each visit. Behind every Indian is a woman high on sarees, so do spread the word and pay a visit!
