Every now and then we hear many mega scale scams being unearthed, many rape and
molestation cases being filed, politics of the country on the verge instability
garnering the wrath of the public , population soaring along with the
unemployment and poverty rates ,bad infrastructure ,poor medical facilities ,
communal riots , naxalism, and not to forget the terrorist attacks. Isn’t it amazing that our country despite that
still boasts a growing Gdp? Besides us
Indians are still very much living in this country with lots of happiness and pride;
ignoring the shortcomings here are five reasons why our great India isn’t at
the altar of an apocalypse -
1.
Ae maalik tere bande hum!-
India is a land of religions, a land of
Gods. From Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism to Zoroastrianism,
Buddhism and Judaism. We pray to numerous Deities giving a tough competition to
the Greeks and the Romans with their Gods too. Add to this list the various
regional gods, holy rivers, sacred cows, trees, sun, moon, harvest products,
husbands and their worship rituals. We have prayers in the morning assemblies
of our schools. One of the primary reasons why we are succeeding as a country are
Gods, our absolute devotion towards them and their grace. In this country
religion is very dominant, even if we deter in our paths towards the almighty
we have many Gurus and their preachings to save us. Does it seem hard to
believe that our country thrives because of the prayers of 1.2 billion inhabitants?
2.
‘Sirf gyaan hi aapko apka haq dilaega! ‘-
India has nurtured the likes of Aryabhatta,
Raman, Mahatma Gandhi, Mirza Ghalib , Tansen ,Sarojini Naidu ,Nissim
Ezekiel and many more world renowned
scholars eminent in science ,mathematics, politics, poetry ,music etc..Knowledge
is a known trait in Indians for which they are praised worlwide with more than
117 lakhs students enrolled in graduate schools each year (UGC report). India
is a country where quiz is played as an avid leisure activity (as in Kolkata),
a country where Bournvita Quiz contests and KBC are reverently followed. Not
only do we have the literate people showcase their knowledge, the street smarts
in our country are cleverer than many literates present anywhere in the world. India
is also a country of entrepreneurs who regardless of their level of education
are ace players in business (for eg kirana
store owners, merchants in textile industry, etc). Also eminent scientist APJ Abdul Kalam being
our previous president and an economics scholar, our current prime minister
sure speaks a lot about our knowledge driven country.
3.
The echo of ‘Side please!’ –
In a country where adjustment is
taught everyday to its citizen, having freedom of movement in our fundamental
rights, we Indians comfortably adjust and dwell in various parts of our
country. Keeping in mind our population we know exactly how to do that. See the
transport, we have ‘shared autos’, rickshaw’s with extra seat in its rear, we
don’t hesitate to ask people to squeeze us in that tiny narrow space in buses
and metros. Trains are often seen crowded even till the floors get occupied
.Our adjustable nature makes us easy to work with, example the MNC’s, it is
commendable that most of the Indians today are bilingual, we have mastered
English with an amazing ease, and we are now honing our skills in western dance
forms, hosting grand prix, learning and savouring world cuisines etc., adapting
and welcoming globalisation contrary to other nations like France and China
with their rigid nature.
4.
The attitude of Kaam ho jaega!-
Next highlight is our Indian
trait of making things work. We have numerous alternatives to do a work .Most
of us excel in this innovation (jugaad) however small they might be. For
example, have you ever noticed the motorised thelaas (carts) on the roads, or
the modified tractors in our villages? Don’t we possess Chinese counterfeit
replacements for most of our gadgets? .
In various walks of lives, we don’t shy away from wearing low cost replicas of
high end brands to our benefit. Recent report in Hindustan Times covered that
jugaad was also used by the Indian army in the form of handheld video cameras
in the Kargil war. Jugaad apart from innovation may also mean sources and we
Indians have huge network of people in our contact list for and from whom,
doing and getting, favours whether for monetary benefits or otherwise is
a smooth procedure. This jugaad has helped India function in a very efficient manner,
lifting up the hurdles as we go with our ready to shoot plan B’s.
5.
Pet puja and Kahaani ghar ghar ki-
Last but not the least, we Indian akin to the
Greeks and Japanese are deeply connected with our families; the traditions and
teachings guide us throughout our life. The family holds us together and acts
as a safety net to fall back upon .Our family gets extended to our neighbours
and friends with whom evening snack becomes a ritual. This family support is
complemented by the Indian cuisine world famous thanks to its diversity and its
delicious taste. Giving a master chef like challenge to the French, Chinese and
Thai to run for their money ‘Maa ke hath ka khaana’ is what most Indians swear by.
Apart from that, the street food of various origins, preparations and tastes from gol gappe to pav bhaji, from dosa to
momos, kathi rolls to ram laddus, and poha to dhokhla ,stand now where less. The deadly combination
of food and family give us the emotional support (be it spicy, sweet or savory)
letting us forget the gazillion worries that our country induces upon us for
some time until we go back to face the world.
Thus these five components become the perfect
combination of factors making us Indians live happily our unapologetic King
size lifestyles.
