Dil Dhadakne Do -Movie Review!

Trailers told us that this was gonna be a movie about a dysfunctional family on a cruise trying to solve problems about life, and to be honest , I wasn’t really excited to watch this one , given Zoya Akhtar’s love for rich people and my lack of interest for rich people problems.

Dil Dhadakne Do is a story of a family on cruise to celebrate the marriage anniversary of the Mehra couple. This is a family which pretends to be perfect for the world but in reality doesn’t even talk to each other. The boys are expected to lead business and the girls get married and take care of home. As the story moves forward we witness the harsh truths about marriage as a transaction for rich families and the lives people choose to lead to conform to the societal expectations.

In my opinion, the story was very much predictable and that is perhaps why the one seventy minutes especially in the second half seem like a draaaag! The story has its highs and lows and those highs are what make it a decent watch. The cinematography is beautiful with the blue ocean following in each frame. Zoya Akhtar must be congratulated for the direction ,for working with hyper active set of actors like Anil Kapoor ,Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra could have easily made the movie a madhouse , but thanks to Zoya , the actors maintain their space and the excess energy is managed comfortably.

The acting department worked appropriately to their sketches .With the plate full of known faces, we see good acting from the whole cast. Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah were pretty amazing.Ranveer Singh acts his usual self and hasa  good presence. Priyanka Chopra is great at points but at other places is highly average.Farhan Akhtar and Anushka in their special appearances are good.The only okay number being Pehli Baar.

Dil Dhadakne Do was not as bad as I expected it to be. All in all, a decent watch.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag-movie review

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra –director, producer- is like Sanjeev Kapoor, absolutely brilliant at stirring up a perfect soup using commercial as well as art elements just right! You’ve got those only-music- let -the-acting-speak moments; but they aren’t abstract enough to disrupt your connect with the movie-Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

It is a real life inspired story of the brilliant athlete Milkha Singh with Farhan Akhtar in the lead.

The cinematography abides by any Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra movie standard,-amazing, dramatic and awe-worthy; we’ve seen similar work in Delhi 6 and Rang De Basanti from the very same talented conjurer, but no-one’s complaining Mr.Binod Pradhan.

P.S.Bharathi does a good job editing the movie with a gripping first half, only if the director had asked for a little more trimming. The second half though very good slows down in pace stretching the movie to 189 minutes! Screenplay by Prasoon Joshi is also fitting except that the to and fro motion makes the equilibrium point look cheesy or maybe the real life inspired story is intense enough that it belittles this trivial point. Story?  Well it is inspired with honest compassion and is beautifully written and well executed .There are either documentaries or movies based on real people, and movies either distorts the true events with the infection through fiction or just makes the story more appealing and this movie just gets it right with the latter .And this leaves us with nothing but sheer respect for the man!

The acting wagon is filled with incredible performances. Farhan Akhtar is fantastic, thanks to the makeup, dress and hair department along with his gruelling exercise regimen, he portrays an uncanny resemblance and enhances it with genuine depiction of the flying sikh. Pawan Malhotra as his beginner coach is just flawless, and Prakash Raj just wins the audience’s heart with his role .Sonam Kapoor’s Rs.11 cameo is sweet and Divya Dutta as Milkha Singh’s sister is beyond praises, she  does absolute justice to her character and has super chemistry with Farhan. Yograj Singh (national team coach) does well, but as far as Dalip Tahil is concerned (Prime minster), we’ve seen enough of him to believe him to be Jawarahlal Nehru on screen which is only funny. All the other supporting actors are pretty good.

Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is wonderful with various numbers like ‘maston ka jhund' ,’mera yaar’ , ‘o rangrez’ and ’zinda’ ,but what is worth complimenting is the highly energetic, powerful and exceptional background score .

1.       Brilliant representation coupled with apt music 2 .awesome acting 3.motivation (no seriously) 4. And Of course Farhan’s sculpture like body (boy oh boy,is it really him?!)
