Now before, all you Kangana Ranaut fanatics jump at me for
bringing her movie down, let me start by saying I love Kangana Ranaut. Smacking
performances in Queen and Tanu weds Manu made me her fan. But I’m worried Katti
Batti won’t do so well. Looking at the trailers, I’m afraid, this one won’t be
a feather in her crown! I mean this
movie has,
Imran Khan as Imran Khan
He has done more than 15 movies and yet unfortunately looks
the same in EVERY one of them. Yes, the moustache in Once upon a time in Mumbai
was the closest he got to changing up his look. In Katti Batti, he is playing
the same urban upper middle class next door lover boy.
Imran Khan doing Imran Khan stuff
As if it wasn’t enough to see him essaying the same roles.
He is even repeating his scenes. I mean look at his nose patch

A Crazy girl
Whether it is hyper high on life Geet(Jab we met), excited and daring Akira(Jab tak hai jaan), Veronica in Cocktail, Dimple (mere brother ki dulhan) or Heer kaul ( Rockstar). The carefree and fuck-the-patriarchy
new age character has been done over and over again, more so in the recent
movies. While Kangana as Imran might do great justice to their roles, even with
Kangana’s changing hair dos, it remains far from anything new.
Living together scene
This area of relationship also has been done in movies a lot
of times. I hope
they don’t dwell on this angle too much as we have witnessed both the good and
ugly side of living together with Saathiya ,Chalte Chalte etc
Commitment phobic character
Probably a long shot, but do you remember Tusshar Kapoor’s
role in Kya Dil Ne Kaha , Saif in Salaam Namaste ,Parineeti –Sushant in Shudh
Desi Romance . They all had the same problem, the fear of commitment .Kangana in Katti Batti
seems to be going through similar troubles reaching up to her not knowing the
spelling of commitment!
Another formula done till death for the Indian audience is
the -big accident. This is the crucial juncture where the movie couples’ happy
times go for a toss.Jab tak hai jaan was not to long ago. Katti Batti seems to be applying this same technique and
that is what makes me go Meh!
500 inspiration
Many people have compared the movie’s trailer to the
Hollywood movie 500 days of summer and even though it is not right to do that
before the release of the film (this article is doing just that :P) the similarities of the boy pining for the girl,
girl not ready for the commitment , friends as advisers and ‘not a love story’
tagline , doesn’t fair well for the uniqueness.
See the tiny similarities yourself!
Katti Batti's trailer doesn't excite me too much, I hope I'm wrong!
*i dont own any photos*
Hahaha! This is so well written Di. Couldn't agree more. Wishing Imran Khan gets to do more varied characters in the future.
