Prem Ratan Dhan Payo -Movie Review!

(Source-hdwallpapersimage.com)
Sooraj Barjatya, the name itself, brings to mind joint families, grand sets, traditions and high emotional drama. And this time, the director is back with his favourite actor Salman Khan who doubles the grandness giving us the family saga Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
‘Har family mei problem hain , par who khushnaseeb hain jinki family hoti hai’. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo revolves around a royal family which tries to tie together the severed relationships of the   siblings leading up to the royal coronation of the Yuvraj Vijay Singh(Salman Khan) ,engaged to Maithli (Sonam Kapoor). And who is but the problem solver , the ultimate hero 'Prem' (Salman Khan again!) who makes the estranged members remember their love for each other and the importance of tradition and family. All for Maithli and her suhaag!

Sooraj Barjatya incorporates his favourite elements like God, temple, wedding ,step siblings and friendly sports along with signature sequences like on the roof and in the kitchen in the movie .Incidentally, he even gives a minor throwback to the Shakuntala-Mamaji scene from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun with Deepak Dobriyal. Blending old with the new, it is a very smart move by Barjatya , the director and writer, to showcase his kind of opulence, culture and emotional family saga by basing the story on a royal family. And all that works fine until the music starts to play as the songs seem removed far from today and better suited to the early nineties or eighties era.
In fact, the music department helmed by Himesh Reshamia deliversnon-interesting songs with the exception of the title track and premleela. There is an excess of songs in the movie, which could’ve easily been done away with. There is a song after every few minutes which make the first half seem pretty long. And I believe the movie would’ve been better without these interruptions.

The ends of such stories are predictable and thus the execution must be engaging. The story seems lengthy , filled with superflous scenes and leads up to Bartjatya’s maiden action sequence which unfortunately becomes a  slightly comic climax featuring the ridiculous ,worst and dangerous place for children and adults-the sheeshmahal!!!

Niel Nitin Mukesh( his pink ears!) , Swara Bhaskar, Deepak Dobriyal as supporting actors do a decent job. Also there is Armaan Kohli in the movie as the main villain. ( And they say Big Boss is shit :P ) Anupam Kher is wonderful as his character. Sonam Kapoor goes from playing a sad/angry princess to a desperate-for-love princess :P No, but she does only an okay job ,trespassing the overacting side sometimes. But that aside, the main star of the movie is Salman Khan, he not only looks great but is convincing and amazing for his part! The man is doing some different roles. He is the one, who makes the cheesy movie not seem overtly ridiculous.
I am ze star!
